Friday 27th March was Science Day at Swaythling, and across the school children took part in a range of exciting and engaging experiments! KS1 designed packaging to protect an egg during an egg drop, made their own parachutes, created lava lamps and watched a Coke and Mentos explosion! In KS2 children experimented with sound by creating their own telephones, designed boats to withstand increasing cargo loads and investigated chromatography. The children in KS2 were also lucky enough to have a visit from some scientists from the University of Southampton who performed a range of incredible experiments! They saw flowers and bananas being frozen in liquid nitrogen, experiments involving dry ice and mostly excitingly a range of explosions! The children were able to answer a range of tricky questions and displayed their love for science. A huge thank you to all of the teachers for their efforts and organisation – it was a fantastic day!
